If you’re looking for more action movies, then you’ve come to the right place. Below, we have curated a list of three action movies to watch in May. Our selections include the first film in one of Hollywood’s best franchises, an inspiring war drama, and an epic disaster film.

John Wick (2014)

John Wick walks with his gun
Summit Entertainment

When one of the best action movies of the last 10 years is streaming for free, you’re doing yourself a disservice by not watching it. We’re referring to John Wick, the action film starring Keanu Reeves as the titular hitman. John Wick (Reeves) left the criminal underworld to live a peaceful life with his wife, Helen (Bridget Moynahan). When Helen tragically dies, she sends John a puppy to help him grieve. One night, the son of a Russian crime boss (Alfie Allen) breaks into John’s home, steals his car, and kills the puppy.

To say that was a huge mistake would be an understatement. Hell-bent on revenge, John puts on his snazzy black suit, grabs a gun, and sets off on a path of vengeance. Directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick reinvigorated Reeves’ career, returning the talented actor to A-list status. Because of its dazzling stunt work, the John Wick franchise has become the gold standard for action sequences.

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

A soldier runs through a battlefield.
Lionsgate

Hacksaw Ridge is a story so unfathomable that you have to believe it. No one could conjure up a story this inspiring from their imagination. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield) joins the United States Army as a combat medic. Desmond is a conscientious objector, meaning he refuses to pick up a gun. In basic training, Desmond is shunned by his fellow soldiers.

However, Desmond never caves, earning the respect of his group over time. It all comes to a head during the Battle of Okinawa. With the Americans pinned down, Desmond puts his life on the line to save others. This selflessness is at the heart of Hacksaw Ridge, a gripping war thriller about one man’s faith and heroism.

Geostorm (2017)

A group of scared people run for their lives.
Warner Bros.

Disaster movies are great forms of escapism. There’s something about watching a group of people save the world that makes for a good blockbuster. Geostorm, the 2017 film by Dean Devlin, was initially destroyed by critics. Upon further examination, Geostorm isn’t that bad, and that’s a credit to one man: Gerard Butler, whose commitment to making 1990s-style action movies should be applauded.

To combat climate change, a team of scientists led by Jake Lawson (Butler) created “Dutch Boy,” an intricate series of climate-controlling satellites that can manipulate the weather to prevent natural disasters. A few years later, Dutch Boy begins to malfunction. After an initial investigation, Jake learns a group of terrorists planted a virus in Dutch Boy to create a geostorm that could wipe out most of mankind. While Jake tries to stop the virus in space, his brothe,r Max (Jim Sturgess), searches for the person behind the virus. Time is ticking, and the world’s fate rests in the brothers’ hands.

There have been some action films that double as love stories, but fans sometimes seem to forget that love is also the primary motivating factor in several action flicks. Would John Wick have gone on a post-retirement killing spree if gangsters hadn't shot and killed the dog his late wife left for him? We'd be here all day if we had to keep coming up with examples of this trope.

Since it's February, all three of our picks for the three action movies on Hulu that you need to watch this month revolve around love in some way. Only the third film on our list counts as a romance story, but it's also got some of the most over-the-top action.

The cast of Predator poses with their guns in the jungle.

By now, you should know that Tubi is one of the premier FAST services on the market. Don't let the "free ad-supported streaming" moniker scare you away. There are no hidden fees at sign-up. The only catch is ads play during your feature presentation. Think of it like commercials on cable TV. Honestly, it's a solid trade-off for a good service.
Tubi's lineup continues to improve each month. Some standout titles in February include Dune, Denis Villeneuve's first movie of a two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel; Easy A, Emma Stone's hilarious teen comedy; and Licorice Pizza, Paul Thomas Anderson's sweet coming-of-age tale. This article is catered toward action fans, and our picks below are three stone-cold classics.

The Terminator (1984)

"I'll be back." 40 years later, that phrase from The Terminator still has a stranglehold on pop culture. Those three words were uttered by Arnold Schwarzenegger's titular Terminator, a cyborg assassin sent from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), whose unborn son will one day lead the human resistance against machines.

A family looks upset in "Wolf Man."

One of January's most eagerly anticipated movies is Wolf Man, a contemporary retelling of the classic werewolf story directed by Leigh Whannell and produced by Blumhouse. In this version, the titular lycan is family man Blake (Christopher Abbott) who takes his wife and young daughter to his secluded cabin in the woods to relax. Yet what they all find instead is terror after Blake is bitten by a rabid wolf and begins to transform into something not quite human.

Now that Wolf Man is playing in theaters, there's a decent chance you're in the mood for similar tales of supernatural creatures and otherworldly transformations. Don't fret as the following three movies are guaranteed to hold you under their spell for a couple of hours.
